ADAMS' BONSAI
Lynchburg, VA
BONSAI SUPPLIES
CUT PASTE: This cut past is made in Japan specifically for bonsai
use. It has a putty like consistency and is used to protect pruning
wounds from drying out, insects, and disease. A must for azaleas and
large wounds on most species. 160 gram jar (about 1/3 lb.)
$9.00
DRAMM WATERBREAKER: The best for hose watering. 400 tiny holes
in a 2" cast aluminum head provides a high volume of water without
washing soil. Fits standard US garden hose connection. $11
BONSAI SOIL: Adams’ Bonsai soil mix is suitable for all but the
smallest mame bonsai. It is a sterile mix composed of Turface, grit,
and peat. I have been using this mix exclusively for nearly thirty
years with excellent results. Due to the lack of available nutrients
in this mix, annual use of a trace element supplement such as Micromax
is recommended for plants such as Zuisho which are unusually sensitive
to trace element deficiencies. Sold by the gallon. 5 lb./gal. $5/gal.
BONSAI MICRONUTRIENTS: Trace elements necessary for healthy plant
growth are often missing from our soilless bonsai mixes. A life saver
for white pines. Improves health & color of foliage on most acid
loving plants. Micromax adds soluble sulfur, boron, copper, iron,
manganese, molybdenum, & zinc in proper proportion. Helps neutralize
alkaline municipal water. Apply once annually at spring bud break.
Sprinkle powder over dry surface of soil and water in well.
˝ pound
jar treats 60 gallons of soil. $6
TURFACE MVP: Fired agricultural clay. The size (about 3/16”) and
texture promotes the balance between drainage and moisture retention
necessary for bonsai soil mixes. Little or no compaction between pottings
so drainage is preserved. Pickup at nursery only. 50 lb. bag $15
ARS PRUNING SCISSORS: Inexpensive but very effective
and useful for light pruning, leaf trimming and the like. Plastic
loop handles with hardened steel blades $11
